First named Grey Journal, together with Grey Text and Grey Display, Ultra Black was conceived as part of the Grey Press. It started out as a communal fascination with Stef Cuypers for the handwriting on the headline posters of the London Evening Standard. To retain it’s analogue qualities, we digitized multiple glyphs for each letter. Using a special Opentype script these appear to be randomly inserted. When typing HHHH, each H will be different from the next.

UN TRES HEUREUX NO-L — a A0 poster specimen designed by Stef Cuypers — was inspired by a christmas postcard that Alfred Hitchcock and his wife send out.
