PDU

These fonts started out as a typographical experiment to see how the letters constructed with the Plaque Découpée Universelle would combine into words.

Multiple styles — see FRAGILE — were constructed: the original alphabet how F. A. David envisioned it, my “cleaned up” version, a more fascist version and a retro version. These different styles can be seen combined in Orale BBQ. These and many other glyphs have been incorporated into the final fonts as they are available through Colophon Foundry. These also include: historical forms, small-caps, tabular, proportional, lining and old- style numerals and many more.

PDU Regular, PDU Outline, PDU Pattern Regular and PDU Pattern Outline are available through the Brighton based Colophon Foundry.

Bespoke Stencil versions were commissioned by James Goggin for the signage system of Tutti a Tavola!, the opening event for the 2010 Milan Furniture Fair. This was a collaboration between Practise and David Kohn Architects.
